A rather intriguing (and funny!) article about the true nature of the so-called Finno-Ugric movement has been recently published in a Russian “scientific” journal “Problemy Natsionalnoj Strategii” (Problems of National (Ethnic?) Strategy) by V.V. Ivanov, titled “National-Separatism in Finno-Ugric Republics of the Russian Federation and the Foreign Factor”.
A major part of the article is devoted to the activities of the Youth Association of Finno-Ugric Peoples (MAFUN) and one O.Loode who, according to the author, is the “conduit of U.S. interests in the structures of Fenno-Ugria and MAFUN)”. And this is just the beginning of the wild claims and conjectures of the esteemed researcher from Kazan.
While I don’t think that this article broke new ground in social sciences – to put it mildly – it could easily be nominated for the “Finno-Ugric Humor Prize of the Year”, if such existed.
Happy readings and laughs! (Right now unfortunately only in Russian).
